Online Giving in the Digital Age

In the fall of 2019, The LAM Foundation launched a new online donation and fundraising platform, Classy. The launch proved to have impeccable timing: little did we know what 2020 would bring. As in-person events and activities were canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, online giving and fundraising quickly became the most viable option for our LAM community.

During 2020, we were able to introduce a feature called peer-to-peer fundraising. Peer-to-peer fundraising provides a way for individuals in our LAM community to create personal fundraising pages to benefit The LAM Foundation. This creates an opportunity for our community to share their unique stories and connections to LAM by personally reaching out to their own network of family and friends. An example of a successful online peer-to-peer fundraiser is the Laps For LAM event hosted by LAM patient Peggy Haupt.  Peggy has hosted Laps For LAM, an annual walk-a-thon, in the small town of Chowchilla, California, for the past 11 years. Due to the pandemic, Laps for LAM pivoted to a virtual event, where participants could walk, run, bike, or swim their laps on their own time, in their own city, safely adhering to CDC COVID-19 guidelines.

Using the Classy platform, this event supported widespread individual and team fundraising from the LAM community, across the nation, and around the globe. This resulted in 532 participants and donors raising over $62,000 to find a cure for LAM.

Online giving through the Classy platform provides donors the opportunity to give at their convenience with a choice of payment options, including credit card payment and ACH payment. In 2020, The LAM Foundation received online donations ranging from $5.20 to $5,200. We are grateful for each and every donation.

Each donation we receive increases our momentum, sustains our confidence, and assures our vision of new discoveries that will help all women with LAM live longer, happier, and more hope-filled lives.  If you are interested in donating today or starting an online fundraiser, click the button below.  Click here for instructions on how to create a personal fundraising page and here for instructions on how to create a team fundraising page.
